History 2010-2011In recognition of the 70th anniversary of Dunkirk Ensemble turned its attention to reviving the war-time programme. Utilising the successful format of the Novello and Berlin evenings the concert was structured in a word and song format. Interspersed with the songs of the era and the spoken word (which alternated between describing the course of the war and life on the home front), extracts were played of speeches of the time (Churchill, Roosevelt and de Gaulle) to add to the authenticity of the evening. Once again the first performance of the concert was given at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where Ensemble was appearing for the 21st year in a row, in the renamed St. Andrew’s and St George’s West Church. Further performances of the concert were given later that year in Leven and in Freuchie and in early 2011 in Strathmiglo and once again at the Pitlochry Festival Theatre in support of the Lawside Romania project. |
