History

In January 1983 the seed was sown for the formation of a small concert group to sing a wide range of music from the theatre - opera, operetta and musicals. But this was to be no choral group - the group would sing without music (well, 99.9% of the time!), would add movement and costume. The programme would be constructed so that, wherever possible, scenes were created and the programme given a continuous flow by items running one into another. Printed programmes were decided against, so that different members of the group interacted with the audience to set up the scenes to follow. Finally, and perhaps the most far-reaching decision that was to be made, the group should concentrate on performing group items rather than a series of solos and duets led to the group's name - Ensemble.
